Deals: The Economic Structure of Business Transactions
Guhan Subramanian's book "Deals" captures the range of real-life transactional complexities with case studies covering many high-profile negotiations that show how to tackle challenges, such as information asymmetry between buyer and seller, moral hazard, and opportunistic behavior. The book lays out responses to common risks associated with long-term contracts, emphasizing that a deal’s exit rights should be carefully considered at the start of transaction design.
This book is unique in its practical application of economic theory to actual dealmaking and will provide a resource for students and professionals across the business and legal world.

Attending the PON HLS live session on "The Art of Asking Questions in Mediation and Negotiation" was an eye-opening experience. The skill of asking effective questions is often underestimated, but it's crucial for success in negotiations and mediations. The session provided valuable insights on how well-crafted questions can clarify viewpoints, explore alternatives, deconstruct emotional barriers, and build trust-based relationships. I highly recommend everyone to invest in developing this skill to enhance their negotiation and mediation practices. Cheers from Brazil.

So good to hear of the incorporation of the insights of the behavioral sciences into work in conflict and peacemaking. I have been doing the same at the Foundation for Religious Diplomacy, and drawing from many of the same researchers, such as the late Emile Bruneau mentioned in this lecture, for several years now. We need this, and to bring interfaith and peacemaking work into self-critique by way of efficacy instead of assuming our work is accomplishing the task. We definitely have a partner in Beyond Conflict.

Well, it's a quote from The Time article. Zelenskyy top advisers say about him: “He deludes himself, ” one of his closest aides tells me in frustration. “We’re out of options . We’re not winning. But try telling him that. It is immovable, verging on the messianic.” One Austrian artist was in a similar state in 1945.

No one can hasten prophecy God time is God time so no matter what one does it won’t change a thing , it looks very crazy to me when it comes to the end of it all, there will be a clash between the Zionist Jewish side and the Christian Zionist we can see that the two propagandas will be fighting against each other and also there is selfishness in all of it( no fraternity/ no loving our neighbors as we love our enemies/no tolerance in it as the Bible stated. To me after watching the documentary it’s all war.

This is highly opinionated commentary. I believe her reporting of events she witnessed in the 1990's are credible. However, her running commentary based on her emotions, feelings, and biased interpretations of current events since she left Russia in 1996 is distracting and propagandistic. Her actual reporting from the period she was in Russia is on the level of a VICE reporter showing what she is seeing on the ground. However, under the guise of being a reporter 30 years ago she is using this platform to advance her political beliefs for at least 30 minutes of this 59 minute segment. I think a distinction needs to be made between journalism and opinion. I accept her eyewitness reporting but find the polemical nature of her comments which are entwined with almost every incident she reports distracting and difficult to listen to. She applies emotive language consistently : "Absurd", "dangerous" , "wonderful" , "exciting" , "super", " tragic". If she wants to offer her political beliefs, I think Harvard PON presenting this talk has the duty to present her honestly as such. There is no effort to provide any balance to the reporting, quite the contrary. Her commentary does not indicate she has any historical grounding in the history of the Soviet Union prior to 1990 and the ethnic conflicts that have raged in Europe and Eurasia over hundreds of years. She does not offer any perspective based on knowledge or understanding of complex geopolitical interests and economic forces prior to 1990 or since 1996. She is not presented as a scholar or an expert, nevertheless she is given the credibility to use the PON platform to advance positions and prejudices based on emotions and no historical understanding. Paule is not speaking here as a journalist, but as the politician she became, and her commentary here selectively advances her positions. I find the moderator ‘s comments on the end disturbing- this was 59 minutes of polemic, not analysis.
